NBS Academy in a new TaskForce on NBS in Education!

Since January 2024, the NBS Academy project is part of the ‘Task Force for NBS Education‘, an initiative that is jointly coordinated by two Horizon projects, the NBS EduWORLD and NetworkNature projects, with the Trinity College taking the lead in facilitation, on behalf of the project NBS EduWORLD. The ‘Taskforce for NBS Education’ is part of the family of NBS Cluster Task Forces initiated by the NetworkNature project.

This is a great opportunity for NBS Academy to connect with the other relevant involved projects, exchange expertise on NBS in education and try to establish synergies to amplify the outputs impact. Besides, it will help the project in achieving its main aim, the creation of a European Community of Practice by engaging and training teachers, training providers, policymakers and NBS experts to mainstream NBS in education and in particular in teacher training.

The primary goal of the Task Force on Nature based Solutions (NBS) in education is to establish a platform and cultivate a community of nature-based solutions project representatives, educators and NBS experts to shape the future of nature education in Europe by collaborating, exchanging knowledge, providing needs-based resources for NBS and supporting competency-building activities for the future generation of NBS professionals.

Specific objectives of the Taskforce of NBS education:

  1. Community Engagement and Outreach: Organise outreach programs, workshops, and events to involve members and the wider community in hands-on experiences that showcase the positive impact of nature-based solutions. This will involve the establishment of partnerships with colleges, schools, community organizations, and environmental agencies to promote awareness and understanding of the benefits of nature-based solutions.
  2. Integration of Nature-Based Solutions in Education: Develop comprehensive educational frameworks that seamlessly integrate nature-based solutions into existing curricula across various academic disciplines. Promote interdisciplinary learning experiences that highlight the interconnectedness of ecosystems and emphasize the role of nature in addressing global challenges.
  3. Creation of Engaging Learning Resources: Produce innovative and interactive educational materials, including lesson plans, multimedia content, and hands-on activities, to engage students in the exploration of nature-based solution.

By fostering a network of leading educators, providing resources, and advocating for policy change, the Taskforce for NBS Education will transform education into a powerful force for positive environmental action.
