NBS Academy workshop “Future educators’ skills. Integrating Nature-Based Solutions into teacher training”

Last month, on 19th of March 2024, NBS Academy conducted an inspiring hands-on workshop titled “Future educators’ skills. Integrating Nature-Based Solutions into teacher training” and focused on integrating nature-based solutions into teacher training as part of the “Supporting STEM Educators: Innovative Approaches to Teaching and Learning” week-long course that was held at the ‘Future Classroom Lab (FCL)’ in Brussels, from March 18th to 22nd.

In this workshop the project was represented by Chiara Longobardi, as speaker, from our Belgian partner European Schoolnet. It blended NBS concepts and practices as well as the European frameworks at the core of the NBS Academy’s activities, namely GreenComp and DigCompEdu. The workshop aimed at guiding participants (mainly primary and secondary teachers as also teacher trainers) through reflective practices on the needs of educators facing the ever-growing need to teach about sustainability and nature-based solutions. Participants then dived into interactive activities and collaborative learning and in groups they tackled the task of designing an ideal module for teacher training on NBS, whether for Initial Teacher Education (ITE) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The session concluded with engaging peer-learning activities, fostering a dynamic and enriching learning environment.

Overall, the workshop provided an opportunity for educators to explore innovative approaches towards integrating NBS into teacher training programmes, a much-needed action for the future of Education for Environmental Sustainability, and the general aspiration of NBS Academy.
